Okay Santa Monica Pier lovers, this is your moment. Think in terms of one-hundreds. One-hundred cents in a dollar. One-hundred yards on a football field (Super Bowl fans). One-hundred years since Abraham Lincoln would have turned one-hundred years old. Same for Charles Darwin! Hundreds hundreds everywhere. But for us, it's all about the Pier's one-hundredth birthday. Let the Centennial Celebration begin!
For those who have been keeping tabs on the Pier, you well know that there has been a book documenting the Pier's history in the works for some time now. The book, Santa Monica Pier: A Century on the Last Great Pleasure Pier , will be seen its official launch on February 18th, and Pier friends, family and fans are all invited to come celebrate its release at a gala in the historic Carousel Building that evening. The party will also reintroduce the "Santa Monica Pier Award" with a ceremony recognizing several individuals for their outstanding contributions to the Pier's rich history. Festivities begin at 7:30 PM.
And that's just the beginning. The celebration will continue with an event every month until we reach the Pier's actual birthday. Here is a complete schedule of the events slated for Year One-Hundred:
February 18: Pier Story - The kickoff celebration will include the launch of the Pier's new history book and present this year's "Santa Monica Pier Awards". Carousel Building; 7:30 - 9:30 PM
March 21: Spring Art Thing - Art blooms all over the Pier as artists will paint live for all to experience to celebrate the beginning of spring.
April 18: Sideshow @ the Pier - A day celebrating all of the eclectic talents surrounding the Pier - a busker fest including jugglers, fire-eaters, dancers, drummers and much, much more.
May 31: (Your) Body Works - The Pier and all its fans get into summer shape together with mass participation yoga, aerobics and other fitness classes, coupled with demonstrations and performances by well-known athletes and bodybuilders.
June 20: Schools Out! A Celebration for Kids - An entire day dedicated to those who will oversee the future of the Pier. Entertainment, activities and loads of fun are slated to kick off the summer just right for the next generation.
June 21: Pier Pleasures - It's Father's Day, and this day is dedicated to enjoying a leisurely day with Dad. A fishing derby, chess competition and other fun activities will make it a very special day for the entire family.

July 23: La Monica Ballroom Redux - The Pier's Twilight Dance Series originated as an homage to the great ballroom that once dominated the Pier's profile, and this event will celebrate the eighty-fifth anniversary of that great monument's opening day, complete with dance lessons from the area's hottest instructors prior to the night's live concert.
August 16: SunDay - Swimmers, runners, sandcastle builders and kite flyers will highlight a day dedicated to those elements which have made this area so famous - surf, sand and the sun.
September 6 through 9: Centennial Week - We won't give away too much here. Just mark you calendars for what promises to be one of the most spectacular weeks in the Pier's history.
